When You’re in college it’s not always easy to find a full time job.  Even when you do find one it’s hard to juggle working a steady 80 hrs a week with a full course load.  I’ve tried this myself and I know how difficult it can be.  After trying this for a semester I decided that it was too much and since I didn’t want to cut down on my classes I chose to cut down on working as much. The more you write the better you will become, remember the old saying ‘practice makes perfect’.  I would suggest writing as much as possible so that you can build a portfolio to show to potential clients.  If you are good at writing about certain topics that could help as well.  For example if you like movies, there are ways to make money writing movie reviews. When you think of a financial planner, you think of someone who makes their living helping others learn how to spend their money. You may be now thinking, how much does the person who helps others with their money, actually make? The truth is that a financial planner’s salary varies greatly depending on just how much schooling they may have.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, most financial planners will at least have their Bachelor of Arts in Finance or Accounting, and will earn about $25,000 in their first couple years as a financial planner. When going off to college most people find themselves thinking to themselves or sitting in a guidance counselor’s office saying “ I need help deciding what career to choose.”  If you are one of these people or if you feel this way then know that you are not alone.  Most people have trouble or need help deciding what career to choose. Remember, there is always room for reevaluating your decision later on. In college you are allowed that trial and error period.   I would suggest talking to an advisor if you feel that you can’t figure it out and still need help deciding what career to choose.  There are all sorts of aptitude tests that can be taken to figure out what you are good at and what your interests are.  These tests will then take that info and relate it to a particular job field, from there you can pick a career that you feel best suits you.  These tests are not always on the money but for the most part they are pretty accurate in giving a general idea of what your interests are and helping you apply that to a career choice.  Your school counselor would be a perfect person to talk to about this.  There are a number of these tests available online as well, but I think that a face to face interaction with something as important as your future career is better.

When I was in college, I was a movie fanatic. I would go to theaters and watch a movie everyday – sometimes even twice a day. I was such a movie addict that I would keep a list of the movies I had watched. There was even a year when I actually watched 350 movies in 365 days. I may not have watched every movie that was shown that year but geez, that was more than any of my friends could watch.

Because of my extensive knowledge in modern movies, I became a good film critique in my own right. I had a professor who would always ask us to write reviews of the movies shown in our university theater, which was always free by the way, or the tickets were sold at big discounts. I became a prominent figure in my class because he always appreciated my writing style and the way I critiqued movies, which makes me realize now that my professor could have been a big influence why I pursued a writing career now.

I never had any problems in thinking how to write a movie review because I was always an opinionated person. I was – and still am – a quiet person, but I never felt shy to write my own views of my experience. I was always an open book – literally.

Since I made it my mission to help college students in making profits  to help them get through occasional financial issues, I have thought of putting down tips on how to write a movie review. Let me tell you first though that I may not be a professional movie reviewer, but I was trained for it.

The first thing you have to keep in mind before writing a movie review is to have an initial knowledge of the movie you are planning to see. If the movie features famous Hollywood actors, it is not just enough to recognize their name. Research about their previous works. Know why they were cast into the movie. Also, make a lot of research about the director. Learn what genre he is used to and if he had received awards prior to his latest project. Do not also forget to search for the background of the film. If the movie is based on an event or a real person, then study their history. You might get left out by the movie itself.

When you really want to know how to write a movie review, look at how professional film reviewers do it. They usually use one-liners (sometimes it could just be a word) to describe their overall conclusion. Know what these phrases are because you can use these in making your own movie review.

In order to grab the attention of your reader, you need to create a catchy first paragraph. Use a phrase used in the movie you think it would be known for. Describe how it impacts you or how it can appeal to other people. Since you are writing a movie review, you do not need to always use positive phrases. You can also quote lousy scripts that you thought brought down the movie. Knowing how to write a movie review is just like the film itself. It’s not just in the first paragraph. You want your reader to continue reading until the very last word.

Provide a little recap for your reader, but never disclose a big spoiler. You can do this, however, if you want to create a different style of writing, but warn your reader first. Limit the spoiler you will be disclosing to just about five to ten minutes of a scene. Most moviegoers do not like to be told of what they want to see. I bet you don’t like it either.

Lastly, you are writing a movie review so be honest. Unless you have been paid by the producers to advertise the movie, do not sell the movie by giving all the good facts and ignoring the bad scenes. You can encourage your reader to watch the film if it is really worth watching, but be neutral as much as possible. If you are writing about an X-rated film, I don’t think it is a bad idea to be frank of what you saw but just be professional about it. Being emotional about it is already creepy.

To be able to maximize your earning opportunity and have more readers, be the first on the scene. If there is a premiere night in your area, purchase a ticket right away. You do not want to make a review about “Titanic” because I’m sure that by now, more than half of the world has seen it.

Depending on the field of archeology you are going into, the education requirements are going to be different. For example, some archeologists are what we call avocationals – they do it in their spare time as a hobby.  Avocational archeologists learn a lot about the field by by reading up on the subject. They also more become members of archeological associations or societies.

But if you are going to get an undergraduate degree in archeology, then you will be trained in all the ancient and classic civilizations. If you want to work as a field archeologist, then you need to have a major in at least anthropology or history and a Bachelor of Arts or Science.

There are two levels of graduate training for archeology. The first one is a Master of Arts or Master of Science degree that adds about one to two years of schooling on top of the schooling for the Bachelor’s degree. At the end, a written thesis that is based on original research must be presented.

The second graduate degree is a professional degree. This requires two to three years of extra schooling on top of the Master of Art or Science degree. So, if you want to get a PhD, you will need as much as nine years of schooling. Science nuts who regularly watch “CSI” might want to consider this line of work. Clinical lab techs examine tissue and body fluids under a microscope and test them for diseases. This field is expected to grow as new diagnostic tests continue to be developed, says Shatkin. Entry into the field requires at least a two-year training course from either a technical college or hospital. $47,081.

Heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) installer
If you enjoy working with your hands, this job’s got that, along with the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping people stay cool — or warm. Computer numerical control
In areas of the country that still have a strong manufacturing base, there’s demand for people who can program the robots that do much of today’s assembly-line work, says Bryan Albrecht, president of Gateway Technical College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. “You need strong analytical decision making skills, where you can diagnose a problem in a machine,” he says. $44,629.

Solar energy systems installer
This and many other “green” jobs are hot now, as the recently signed federal stimulus bill put billions into alternative energy and energy conservation. Albrecht reports classes in this field are filling up fast at his college, as a boom in installing solar panels is expected. $44,460.

Correctional officer
Working in prisons can be stressful and hazardous, so it pays pretty well. Corrections can also be a good option for those who want to work the night shift, as prisons must be staffed 24/7. The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics report on this occupation notes that local and state prisons may accept high school graduates without further training. $42,795.

Security and fire-alarm systems installers
Demand for security systems, Webcams and fire alarms is increasing, author Shatkin says, because the price of these systems is falling. The National Alarm Association of America says training can be done in less than two weeks and costs under $1,000. $41,417.

Aircraft mechanic
People who enjoy tinkering with their cars — and live near an airport — might consider this field, which pays better than automotive repair. Unless Americans suddenly give up their love affair with cheap travel, this field is expected to see continued steady growth. According to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, roughly 170 schools nationwide are certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to offer the needed training, which usually takes between 18 months and two years. $39,584.

There are very diverse and specific positions available. Each position has different preparations for it, and each one requires that you have sharpened your abilities at certain skills. Without the required skills, your chances at the job become slimmer, and if you want to maximize in profit, you will want to be an expert at what you do, because a successful game means a big bonus. You might as well start towards that position as you read this so you get a competitive edge over others.

The Designers

Game Designers are known as the masterminds behind the flow of a game, or in some instances the failures (Bible Adventures we?????re looking at you). This field could require many things, mostly the person needs to be well rounded in other positions so they can organize and bring out ideas from everyone else and be ready to assist the other workers when necessary. The Artist

If you are artistically gifted, you will find a big place in the industry. From animation to concept art, everything that the designer envisions needs to be brought to life by the artists. The Programmer

Programming is no easy job. Most people realize this when they take a simple course of BASIC and realize that BASIC is actually not all that basic to the average person, leading to major changes. The in-depth engines that games have today with the power of systems, such as the Playstation 3, mean that every little detail needs to exist in a game, and lazily copying and pasting levels and codes will lead to no sales and ultimately no pay. There is rarely a case of someone beginning as a lead programmer, though if you attend a rigorous school such as Digipen University, you may be allowed to start as one. The Composer

If you decide to become a composer, then music school would obviously be your first choice, unless you already have taught yourself how to use the musical software necessary to make games. It is one of the highest paying jobs in the industry, with the requirement of songs to loop in games and sound effects when actions occur. Level Three: Absorbing Abilities

You really do not need to get an education in order to be involved in the game industry, however it will help you to show that you have a degree, as it will say that you have discipline, can work hard for something, and are intelligent. You will also make more money a year. There are special circumstances where going to school would be a good idea.

If you want to enter programming, Digipen has been known to create programming geniuses from their school and has special deals with many companies to help you get a job (many other gaming schools have bad reputations for their job placement promises). Be prepared for more math numbers than your brain may be able to process in a day and a very strict lifestyle for four years if you do choose to go to Digipen. As far as design is concerned, you could learn many of the same things at art schools such as Ringling School of Art, instead of going to regular game design schools that focus on programming. No matter what, if your education is going to be based on video games, be prepared to give up lots of money now or in the future of loans. Digipen is currently $63,756 without special fees and Ringling School of Art is roughly $42,152 a year without special fees. The good thing is that at this point and time, game companies don’t require actual game degrees, though one day it may become the case that they do, so just get a degree in something that you want to learn, and then take your place in the industry you wanted to enter at the beginning of your adventure.
