Everyone has images of being Indiana Jones in their heads, and while being a  real archeologist is more painstaking excavation than actually outrunning giant boulder traps, there are still a lot of people who would like to go into this field. Many think of archeologists living in large houses, making millions off of their discoveries, but the truth is that archeologists make an average salary, depending on just how much experience they have. So  how much does an archeologist make?

The average salary for an archeologist is $48,000, but this varies greatly depending on what company the archeologist works for, the industry they are in, how much experience they have and what benefits they have incurred. There are four types of archeologists, and each makes a different amount.

An archeological technician makes about $26,000 to $33,000 a year. In contrast, an archaeologist makes between $48,000 and $50,000 on average.

For an archeologist with one to four years of experience, they will make an average salary of about $28,000 to $43,000 per year. If an archeologist has five to nine years experience, then they will pull in a yearly salary of $33,500 to $53,500.

Ten to 19 years experience will increase how much an archeologist makes, with most yearly salaries falling in the range of $39,000 to $51,000.
If an archeologist has 20 years or more experience, then they make the most in the industry with most experienced archeologists pulling in a yearly salary of $40,000 to $71,000.

Being an archeologist is a lot of work and often involves spending a lot of time going through the jungle, digging through the sand, and finding things that no one has seen for hundreds, if not thousands of years. It is a demanding job, but for those who do it, it is highly rewarding and not a job they would trade for anything else in the world.

The pay is decent, but the hours are long. However, you do not work in an office, but make the world your office, seeing things most people can only dream of seeing.
